Tale of Two Covers

Behold! The 2 Covers of Demon Hunters: A Comedy of Terrors

So Why Two Covers?

To be clear, there were always two covers. The one on the left is the physical print book that the campaign funded. It was originally the faux leather bible-like softcover similar to this awesome book:

The cover on the right hand side, designed by Ben Honeycutt, our comic artist, was always going to be the cover for the PDF and for the softcover/hardcover Print-on-Demand editions at DriveThruRPG. That will still be the case.

Great News!!!

Because of strong preorders, we have raised enough money to upgrade the deluxe softcover leatherette to a LEATHERBOUND HARDCOVER!!!

Status of the Book

All art and all edited text have been turned in for layout. Our Layout Mastermind, Thomas Deeny, is hard at work. He's been very patient waiting for us. :) Home stretch folks!!!

It's not too late!!!

If you haven't purchased the physical book yet, we are still accepting preorders at a discounted price of $45.00. You can click on the covers graphic above to go to the preorder store, or you can just head over to:

The Book IS Written!!! And... Print on Demand Cover Preview!

Check out our badass Print on Demand cover!

You will have a choice of hardcover or softcover on DriveThruRPG. Either way, this will be your cover! How kick-ass is this?! Ben Honeycutt SERIOUSLY outdid himself. So, let's talk about the status of the book.

The Status of the Book!

All of the text that is going in this book has been turned in to layout. That means it's edited and mostly done. What do I mean by mostly? Well proof-reading of course. So our master layout designer, Thomas Deeny, will be working his magic in getting all this to look pretty, organized, and awesome. Once he's set everything, our proofreader, Emilie Rommel Shimkus (some of you may recognize her as Wren from JourneyQuest) will pour over it and send her notes. Once it's proofed, Thomas sets up our print files and it's off to the printers.

When it hits the "off to the printers" stage, the PDF will be ready and sent out to all who get the PDF. We will also upload the print file for the Print on Demand version to DriveThruRPG, and those of you who are getting discount codes can order your Print on Demand version immediately at basically our cost.

When does that mean you'll get your deluxe books? At this point I'm hoping to be able to say "before Christmas". I will keep you posted when the timeline gets firmed up.

Thank you all so much for your support and patience on this. It is worth the wait. Our editor has said she's never laughed out loud while editing and reading stat blocks before.

Shameless Promotion

So we have a Kickstarter going on right now for a new cyber-punk style Gamers movie and a new board game to go along with it. It is intended to be very Shadowrun-style. If you like that style of gaming, you should check us out. You can click on the image below to go to the Kickstarter as well. Thanks!  https://goo.gl/rGt3vC

Progress Report
over 8 years ago – Wed, Sep 30, 2015 at 05:12:47 PM

Greetings Fellow Demon Hunters: I am pleased to report that our book is 100% written and about 96% revised! Left to do:

  • Trim and clean up the character creation section. This just means we’re reorganizing, getting rid of redundancy, and making things clearer. We’re in the polishing stage on this.
  • Polishing the rules for developing rituals in the Magic chapter. Only a few tweaks left.
  • Revise the DMC creation section. We recently revisited this to accommodate for larger and more powerful DMCs. We also changed Minion creation to reflect a similar build to the named DMCs.
  • Finish the polish on the DMC stat block chapter, “The Brotherhood Database”. This is kind of our Bestiary/Dossier section on known threats, complete with bios and full stats. The idea is that we provide enough examples of different kinds of monsters and characters of various power levels to give you a model to be able to build your own.

This means that beginning to ship your books by Halloween is not possible. There have been many unavoidable setbacks. The good news is, the PDF and the Print on Demand Version MIGHT be ready by Halloween. But the Deluxe Leatherette versions will take longer. We very much appreciate your patience in all this, and I’m thankful for all your support in helping us make a seriously terrific game. And we ARE almost done.

So with that: An advance look at our Magic & Mentalism Chapter Header Art:

DMC Revision – A Design Briefing

What we love about this system is its emphasis on story building, particularly with character creation. In particular, the Minion creation rules we felt assigning dice to the 4 actions in the game didn’t help tell a story about that character or mob of characters.

Minions

  • Instead, we are giving the minion 1 Approach die. The minion approaches every situation with essentially what it is. So a zombie’s approach is “Zombie”. Then we assign a die to “Zombie”. This establishes a baseline for how powerful that particular minion is.
  • Next, we give the minion 3 Disciplines. The highest die gets assigned to basically what it’s job description is, or what it does the best. For Zombie, it might be “Eating People – d10”. The second highest die goes to something else it’s good at. In this example that might be “Bullet Sponge – d8”. Lastly we give it a single d4 for something it’s bad at, “Shambling”. Well obviously they’re “good” at that, but it represents that they don’t move fast.
  • Give them a couple Aspects and you’re good to go. No Stunts.

Example: Zombie

Conditions: Mild 2

Aspects:

Concept: Shambling Ravenous Undead

Trouble: Head Like A Ripe Melon

Insanely Infectious Bite

Approach: Zombie d8

Disciplines:

  • Eating People d10
  • Bullet Sponge d8
  • Shambling d4

Thanks everyone! Would love to hear how anyone’s game is going using the new Beta! What's going well? What questions do you have so far? Thanks!

GameMaster's Apprentice Decks & Other Updates

 GameMaster's Apprentice Cards

Those of you who receive these cards probably got an email today. I am told by the designer that the Print on Demand link is no good. Apparently a few of the cards didn't convert properly. However, the PDF version which is "Print and Play" ready, is good to go. So hold off on ordering the actual print version of the cards until I can send out an approved link. My apologies. I, myself, ordered a copy before the error was discovered. Questions can be directed to Nathan Rockwood at: [email protected]

Rockwood will also be releasing and Adventure Guide geared towards Demon Hunters. If you got the Cipherspace Codex or higher, you'll be receiving those. These are products created by Larcenous Designs separately, but we worked out a deal with Mr. Rockwood since he's a designer and writer for our book. So the layout and visual design will not be consistent with the rest of our products, just in case that comes up. We're excited to offer this to make playing the game even more fun.

How is the final book coming along?

How nice of you to ask. :) The Magic, Mad Science, Timeline and Time Travel chapters are in and being finalized. Also turns out, the last chapter, The Brotherhood Database, is HUGE. This is our bestiary and section on NPCs and organizations. It might be a third of the book, we're not sure yet. It's huge. We're finishing a few mechanics designs on some of these characters/creatures.

Final art is coming in and we have begun working on The Player's Guide. We're introducing 5 brand new, fully playable Brotherhood Chapters (Brotherhood Chapters are Teams, remember). Over 25 playable characters.

All in all, AMAZING content coming in. The final book will easily be double the length of the Beta. Additionally we're developing a few download tools to go along with the final game.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, when's the release date, wise-guy? Short answer is, I don't want to have to redo anything other than some minor errata we find later on. So I'm hoping we can start fulfillment by Halloween. We've hit a lot of snags in getting this book done. They just can't be helped. Family emergencies. Breaks for conventions. Been a lot. But we're all committed and working hard to get it done as fast as possible. Good news is, the PDF and print on demand versions will probably be ready before the final deluxe book is ready.

The Beta is now available on DriveThruRPG

So tell your friends. Get playing. Tell us what you think. And we'd love to see some reviews up there.

Okay, I got more to share, but it's Muppets time with the little one. Nuff said.

Brotherhood Membership Cards Feedback

Brotherhood Membership Card Design
Brotherhood Membership Card Design

INCOMING MESSAGE TO ALL ACTIVE BROTHERHOOD AGENTS:

We’re just about to order the Brotherhood Membership Cards. We’ve designed them to be a “front”, to look like a certain brand of coffee card with like a secret agent purpose. You’ll note some of the design Easter Eggs. On the back we were figuring a QR code that pointed you somewhere…

Originally it was going to be CelestialTorch.com, which we own… but what to put there? Initial thought was: Brotherhood's Digital Warehouse. PDF downloads of...stuff. Not sure what would be useful to have. Downloads of game material, character sheets...maaaaaaybe a message board, considering the site population would be pretty manageable.

Trouble is we’re already pretty much planning to do this for www.demonhuntersrpg.com

We could also do “Warehouse Discount Code”, essentially a discount key for the new Dead.Market store. That said we are still developing that and don’t know it’s full capabilities yet.

So we’re calling you to help us figure out what would be cool. Is the card by itself cool enough? If we do a QR code, what should it do? Sound off, Agents!
